    is there a Cubase for Mac??? Is there a free version kind of like Reaper??

    Macs have all versions of cubase - but none are free. A few products get shipped with a cut down version - usually LE or similar.

    LE is free sort of, it's usually included with hardware.

    Also it works on apple's OS.

    The free versions that come bundled with Steinberg, Yamaha and some other manufacturers' products are LE and AI (quite similar). If you are starting why don't you try the Elements version? It costs around 100$, much less if you qualify for the edu discount..
