Hi guys
I just joined the forum this week and this is my first post. I've been lurking for quite some time and finally decided that since home recording is starting to consume so much of my life, I should probably open myself up to communication about this "hobby" that is quickly becoming a passion. I know I'll have many questions and I have a lot to learn from those with far more experience, but hopefully I'll be able to return the favor occaisionally with information I may possess. That leads me to my question. What is the best approach to adjusting levels between mic input (recording guitar) and/or direct input (bass) going into a Mackie 1202VLZ, which, in turn, is going into the line-level input of an SBLive souncard. I am using Vegas Pro as my multi track. Naturally, I am looking to achieve the loudest recorded sound without digital distortion coming along for the ride. Also, can anyone explain the concept of headroom and why it matters when recording. I just haven't found an explanation that allows me to assimilate this with what little else I currently know about recording. Much thanx to all who reply.
