Run

Hi all,

A riff idea literally woke me out of my sleep on Sunday morning - had to hum it into my phone and go back to sleep. Turned it into this song which I recorded on Sunday - just in time for election silly season too!

Feedback most welcome:

LYRICS:
(Word and music by Jonathan Linton)

Had lots of fun
Risin’ up
Made lots of money
And lives fucked up
Now you’re ready
For a change
Time to run for office
More of the same

You gotta run!
From truth and justice
You gotta run!
Hope you don’t get busted
You gotta run!
From your right mind
You gotta run!
Leave your soul behind
Yeah!
Run!

It just gets easier by the day
To lie and cheat, ‘n’ get away
Each time you need
Some excuse
Media’s to blame
For fake news

You gotta run!
From truth and justice
You gotta run!
Hope you don’t get busted
You gotta run!
From your right mind
You gotta run!
Leave your soul behind
Yeah!
Run!

SOLO

Those goddam people
In your way
Cryin’ out for justice
‘N’ equal say
Just four more years
Them I’m free
High on the hog
Tax spending spree

You gotta run!
From truth and justice
You gotta run!
Hope you don’t get busted
You gotta run!
From your right mind
You gotta run!
Leave your soul behind
Yeah!
Run!
Run!
Run!
Run!
Run!
Run!
Run!
Run!
Run!

Sounds pretty good. You've got a pretty good Cornell vibe to your voice.

There might be a bit much brightness on some voices. The high-hats and lead vox came through a little sibilant (especially on the verses for the vox)

Lyrics might be a little "on the nose". Not a lot of subtlety to them. But hey, quick writes will do that.

Sounds good and very American lol.

I’m not the biggest fan of the delay you have on the vocals. It sounds like the initial vocal is very dry and then you get a couple echoes of wet vocals. It’s a little jarring, but that’s just personal preference.

I think there should be more movement with the drums and bass during the solo. Driving a bit more. They should be more expressive in that section, but don't squash the lead.

Vocal sounded a bit more Bon Scott to me (at least in the chorus) than Chris Cornell, but I can certainly hear what VomitHat was saying. I agree that the lyrics are pretty up front, but that's ok with me. :)

I really dig the rhythmic displacement in the main guitar riff --- love that device.
