Recently we launched our webpage and I am interested in hearing some
constructive criticism regarding the product that we have
created. Our page is at http://www.geocities.com/jstriomgs and you can
download the MP3s by clicking on sound samples. Here are the
    particulars of the sessions.

recording device: Yamaha MT4X cassette-based multitracker

vocals: AKG C1000S through tube pre, Alesis Nanocomp, into MT4X

bass: line out from amp to MT4X

guitar: line out from effects to MT4X

drums: single overhead C1000S through Nanocomp into MT4X

Effects added during mixdown to PC with Alesis Microverb III.

I know we are using primitive techniques by the standards I read on
this board, but we enjoy recording and would appreciate any responses
that would help us to further improve our recorded music. Thanks!

    Correction!

I'll check out the music now that I've guessed the address!

GREAT playing and a decent recording considering the equipment. I didn't hear the hiss factory that usually accompanies cassette based productions. I'd like to hear the vocals/drums get recorded with better mic(s).
What mic pre did you use? One mic on the drums????
Not too shabby. A stereo overhead and a kick mic would sure be nice. What effects box for the guitar?
Now I wanna hear you guys doing "On Green Dolphin Street" and "Corcovado" encoded at 192Kbps.....

Thanks for the reply drstawl. It's refreshing to hear from someone who obviously recognizes the jazz standards! The Yamaha recorder uses DBX noise reduction to eliminate most of the hiss factory. Yes, one overhead mic on the drums ( I realize that the kick sounds weak). I'll have to ask our guitarist about his effects unit ( it might be a Zoom pedal). I agree with you about the stereo overheads and the kick mic and maybe I'll get around to rectifying that. I think you'd roll on the floor laughing if I told you what I use as a mic pre! Anyway, I'm pleased that you took the time to respond.
