Listening Session

Hi,

I got a little comparison test for you :

I tested a Gibson Les Paul --> marshall vs100 --> 4*1960 Celestion G12-T75-> SM57

Through:
A Gyraf Gyratec IX pre-amp
A Soundtracs MR-24
A RME pre-amp (fireface 800)

To make it a blind test, I won't tell you which is which ...

I think I liked the first one better, as it had less low end rumble, but the other 2 seemed slightly louder, so maybe that;s all I heard as a difference. The last one sounded very clean, but it sounded like it picked up a bit more speaker rumble. For some reason the second one didn't sound quite as clean. I'd be happy with any of them myself though... :D
 
Number one and two sound too alike to really make a decision between those two. Which one you use, one of the first two or the third, depends on the situation and the rest of the instruments/mix. If you need the presence boost of the third one, you should go with it. If not, use #1 or #2, but I'd then cut the bass a little, it's really woofy down there.
 
Yeah #1 and #2 are very similar. I wasn't even sure if a new clip started. #3 though has a trashier rock sound, which as nessbass says, could be better depending on the song you're using it for.
