Keep Your Head Up - would appreciate some extra ears

Hey everyone,

This is a bounce submix before I add vocals (I'm recording on an 8-track tape machine), so I wanted to get some extra ears on this before I start adding more to it if possible.

Thanks!

Sounds great on my headphones. Love the sound of the acoustic guitar.

Thanks much. I'm not sure which acoustic you're talking about; there's a 12-string and a 6-string at different points. But I appreciate the listen and the kind words nonetheless.

Overall I didn't think it was too bad.

In general the guitars were slightly muffled. I'd like just a little more bite to them.

Bass sounded good.

There was a section where I thought the drums might have been a little too busy.

TripleM: Thanks for the listen. I think I agree with you about the guitars. :)

smellyfuzz: I appreciate the mastering. Sounds crisp!

I think that master is bit too scooped and thin - almost harshly bright, and the snare almost disappears. But I think I understand the choices.

Overall, the original mix does lack air. My taste is to also have solid presence sub 100hz. This will naturally scoop the sound a bit, but if the boosts are somewhat surgical, it should balance things out. The upper and lower mid range of the mix are pretty well good to go I think, minus some weird build-up around 700hz.
