Thanks for listening and thanks for any help. I'm trying to find out why my mixes are so muddy. For this track, (for some reason) I was in the mood to make the track sound like a live recording. So I added a ton of reverb, and even with a load of trebly reverb, the mix is still muddy. I may not have added reverb on the bass guitar, can't remember, but my bass doesn't come through well on my mixer (Alesis Multimix USB 8 FX).

I can't ever seem to get a good guitar sound either, especially for distorted guitar. Whether I mic an amp or DI to the mixer, I always get a "tinny" sound.

Should I invest in external preamps? I've wondered if it's the stock preamps on the mixer or if my guitar and bass have cheap pickups or something.

BTW, drums for this track were played on a keyboard. Getting some condensers for my drum kit soon... but talk about a muddy drum kit with you record with only dynamics.

Thanks again for reading/listening/helping!
