this is a new version of 'the travel song'.

changes:
brand new bass track.
5 new guitar tracks, features Palmer PDI-09 Junction specialized guitar DI box for capturing all guitars.
no mics.
mixed from scratch, new master.

this has been a great experiment, hope you enjoy it.
if anyone wants to know about the palmer, i'd be happy to talk about it.

I liked it mate:)

Mix overall sounds full.

Drumwise I dig the deep tom sound!

Guitars sound great for being recorded DI.

Cheers!

thanks for checking it out.

i was quite suprised, and pleased, at the way the guitars turned out, almost better than my typical miced tracks, definitely as good as i could mic at lower volumes than i prefer....

landlord lives on the other side of the wall i record in...
makes it kinda tough.

I like this! Less "Yes" -like than the first version, although there's nothing wrong with Yes at all. Or the first version. I like them both.

Good stuff.

Excellent song. Is this an original song?

IMO the mix is a little dense making it hard to hear everything. The riffs and leads are kick ass but it just sounds like things are a little too compressed maybe?

Great Bonham sounding drums!

vspaceboy-

"Is this an original song"

yes sir!

and yes, the new mix is bit dense compared to the original one...
but i was going for dense, so that's cool...
kind of a wall of sound....

thanks for listening

I remember an older version of this. Man I'd never have picked those guitars were DI'd. Sounds really good. Did you record them clean & add distortion later?

Sweet. I like when threads like this get bumped so I can listen again. :D This is something I'd put into normal rotation on my iPod.

bulls hit-
ah....
the old version.....
it was cool, with the one guitar, but i like this one better.
those guitars, sound exactly on the recording, like they did coming off the speaker..... with a little more presence from the palmer, than they would have had with a mic.
the mic, still sounds really organic, but if you're not a/b'ing that sound against the palmer, it ends up not mattering.
so, no, the distortion was purely amp and pedal, and all the palmer did was capture it.

mwthompson-
glad you're liking it, man, that's the idea!
i had it available for download, if you wanted it...

I downloaded this a couple of weeks ago, played it & replayed it but forgot to comment.
VERY COOL. No nits - the guitars sound excellent given the constraints.

You definitely have a dense sound here - much thicker than the single guitar version. Sounds good. I think the mix is pretty much a-okay. That DI box is pretty amazing....
