I'm no expert on this but I love it as it is now.
You should take into consideration that all the suggestions here are preferential.
Maybe the band was aiming for a "lofi" or "indie-rock" or less polished sound (i.e. Pavement, Archers of Loaf)
vs. the more polished commercial type of sound (i.e. Foo Fighters, Green Day).
If they say it's the former, then I think it's fine.
