I've struggled with the mixes recording here at my home studio. The room isn't ideal, and I'm only using mediocre equipment. I almost gave up on getting a good punchy sound. I decided to get Waves' Vitamin Sonic Enhancer and tried running the mix though it. It has eq, compression control and also stereo width - all in a multi-band setting. And it adds harmonic substance to the mix.

So here's one using that plugin on the mix.

Last Dollar Blues - Banjo Hangout Jukebox

I'm listening on a pair of Sennheiser HD650 headphones and it sounds great to me--especially if this is a live recording. I'm not sure I would sweat too many details if I were recording at this high of a level.

My only comment would be that, for the genre, it's almost too perfect. The vocals are great, but I almost want to hear less reverb. Again, though, it has nothing to do with quality. I'm just too steeped in old timey stuff and when I hear clarity I want to replace it with a record scratch coming from an old 78. :D
