simulating a warm preamp

I've been working on simulating a warm sounding preamp and this is one way, I think, one can do this. Actually I'm just mixing the vocal.. but I've always been told to clean up the lows on vocals. But here's what you get if you raise the lows. You get a nice warm sound. Using a Neumann TLM102.

Interesting ideas you have. But, to me, a vocal like that only matters how it sounds in a mix. Maybe that works, maybe it just makes mud. It's impossible to say what's better or worse, listening to that as a solo.

You're definitely right on that - mixing the vocal for the total mix, not the solo.

Many think that raising the lows or low mids makes a warmer sound, but a true 'warm' sound comes from a saturation that adds more than just an EQ boost. There are many free saturation plugins available.
