mixing down to a tape deck

dose any body know how to mix down to VHS deck

You use the audio line ins just like on a regular cassette deck. When you hit record on the VHS deck, it won't care that there is no video signal. I guess a real purist would use tapes with 3 stooges video and the sound removed.

so you just mix down on the vhs like it's a ADAT, can you hear it later how do you play it back

Put the tape in. Rewind. Hit play. The audio line outs will have the Hi-Fi audio signal, although it will also be present in the composite video signal sent to the TV, if you have that hooked up that way. With playback as with recording the VHS deck won't care that the video doesn't exist or has no relation to the audio.

How do you get from that VHS down to a cassette without horrible noise or do you?

if you are mixing down to a casette tape from VCR tape and dont want noise, first of all have clean heads on the VCR and casette deck, second you probably want to be using quality VCR tape and casettes tape. i've had good experience using Fuji ZII for the casettes tapes. for some reason they just sound amazing, i have Kenwood casette deck, could help. but they dont loose quality from whats coming in.
