EQ instruments

i'm producing a radio commercial and i'm importing instruments from my keyboard to Cool Edit Pro. the instruments sound cool but how can i eq them to make them sound better? we are talking about piano and xylophone(spell?). I don't need anything elaborate, just some quickies to make them a little cleaner.
 
EQ is used to shape a sound so it really depends how you want to shape it....what is it lacking?....what does it have too much of?.....EQ in this situation is a fix, so you have to first recognize what the proplem is with the tracks, and what you want to do about it....if you dont know, leave it as is...you could do more harm than good......

depends on your recording software...with N-Track you can draw a pan envelope.......
