Difference between a limiter and maximizer

Hi,
There are others here who can speak with greater authority but I think a limiter is basically a compressor with infinite ratio, limiting the loud/high end of the dynamic range.
I think a maximiser can be a limiter but also has options to raise the quietest/lowest parts of the signal too.

If your maximiser has two thresholds, that would be a giveaway.

Total generalization here -- A limiter limits the dynamic range. Some say that's a ratio of 10:1 or higher, some (me included) find anything more than 3 or 4:1 quite limiting.

Brick-wall limiter (infinite ratio) and "maximizers" are in a slightly different category where you're trying to dead-stop a signal.

They're all sort of "loose" terms...
