I prefer WaveLab - Although it's not what I normally use, it's the one that gets me out of the "thorns" that other programs may not. You can pretty much "force" it to open almost any file imaginable. If it needs to be done, WaveLab can probably do it.
For general editing, SF takes the prize in simplistic ease of use though.
Keep in mind also that WL has a very generous cross-grade that can even be obtained through some retailers (B&H is where I got the last upgrade to 6). They never even asked for qualified programs. Although I'm sure they will if I ever need to call Customer Service...
