How do I improve my sound quality in mastering on my Roland Boss 1180

Hi there

I am having trouble with the mastering process on my BR 1180 machine and just wondering if anyone can help or has experienced similar problems.
The music I record sounds fine until it comes to the mastering process, then the sound quality drops, the volume becomes very quiet
and when I put it onto a CD I have to turn the volume up very loud. Although, I do not want to sacrifice quality of sound, I wonder if I am doing anything wrong. I have read lots of articles on it and don't know if it is me or the limited nature of the equipement.

I have read through the guides on this forum and will keep trying, but in the meantime if anyone has a similar machine and can help, I would be very grateful

Are you using some pre-set on the BR for 'mastering'? I know my BR600 had that but it was pretty useless.

Yes I am using the pre set mastering on the BR 1180 and you're right I think it is a bit useless
