idea for anyone to capitalize on if they want

i didn't know which forum this could fall in so i put it here.

i don't care for business myself, but for those who do, here is a possible idea you can use if you want. maybe its shit maybe its not. but here it is anyway.

open a specialized music store, like something called 'metalheads' (or the boogiewoogie) (gay i know just couldn't think of name off the top of my head) and make it ALL ABOUT THAT!

for example, everyone knows what the soundchasers are chasing. build the store around that and that only! have it all there for them, like walking into a sort of heaven.

one section could be EVH Section, one Metallica etc....

the store could even be called 'TONECHASERS'

or another idea could also be to open a homerecording store/w/free training.

If someone wanted to take the risk there is a minute possibility of making something successful from it, but I wouldn't want to gamble any investment on such a venture. From what I've seen, independent music stores are dying. Apart from those dealing with very specialised/boutique/vintage gear and instruments, its nigh impossible for them to compete with the low prices (from greater buying power), customer support and reputation of the big chain stores. If I want to buy something, 95% of the time I'll end up at Digital Village; not because that's the only place I look, but because they usually have the cheapest prices, free postage, quick turnaround times, etc. My $0.02.

thanks, but i'm telling you if a smart go getter took up this idea and did it right, they'd be loaded! trust me!

just THINK about what people really want and what they/us are always looking for and griping about. solve that problem and perfect it. there you go.

just some examples, 'how do i get that sound?' 'i want to sound like metallica' 'i want to sound like evh' 'tube or no tube' 'guitar center sucks' etc..

think about it, do it right and do it better than right and they will come:):D

your comment about prices, postage, and time is nothing. a smart person would easily get rid of that, and it would be no thing'! that would be an advantage, like frosting on the allready fabulous cake.

p.s., just think how many evh worshipers there are, just think! do you honestly think even a specialized evh store would fail? noway hosay. no way.

only if it was done wrong

No it doesn't, but you didn't seem to listen to anybody else, so I decided to come in with some accredation. Still didn't listen to me either.

There's just so much wrong with your idea, I don't feel like typing up everything, I have a freaking ear block going on that's annoying the hell out of me.

the idea of extreme finite genre-d music will be one big option available to people in the future (some streaming sites are attempting it now)

this issue is quality

if you could convince someone that if they either subscribed monthly, or downloaded a disc on some regular interval, that every time they got a selection of music from "you" it would be another 10 great songs that they would thoroughly enjoy.... well you could charge double or even triple.

so applying that thinking to your earlier idea, if you could indeed provide GOOD/ GREAT music sounding like Metalica, then you could really have a big market. but what is the current reality? I'm guessing, it's alot of "not as good"

secondly, the idea of a Metalica based shop, only works if the merchandise is primarily Metalica. devout fans are engrossed with "the band" and not necessarily those who sound like the band.

but you are on the right track. i will represent over 200 artists by the end of 2010, but that is a really small number when you get into providing the average web visitor a specific sound, and a regular serving of music from that sound. 2000 artists would be a much better number, but oh so much filtering:eek:

I have a Small Business Degree.

Something like that wouldn't work.
My wife and I renovated an old dairy barn and started boarding horses. We were real smart. Boy if we could only build a couple more stalls we would be making$$$$$$-I could quit my job etc etc etc.

We had 26 horses, we were charging $400 per month, had four people teaching lessons at $35hr. Everytime I went to the bank-not every week, not every month, every time I filled out a deposit slip and got in my truck I was putting 5 to 6 thousand dollars in our checking acct.

February came around, we had no hay in the barn and no money. We put $5600 on our credit cards to buy hay.

People would leave the barn for various reasons, people would call us to see if we had stalls available-we would say “Nope!”

Also-being in business will drive you nuts. “Oh- we can’t afford to pay anymore than this-you aren’t raising the board this year are you?” Next day- “Oh my husband said I could get a new car-pick whatever brand or model you want”- or “Oh my daughter is getting another horse- it’s only $13000, do you have another stall?”

We couldn't afford a safe vehicle, couldn't pay our bills, no health ins etc.

To answer your next question-it is commonly refered to as 'overhead'.

well nowadys all business aside..if you want music you download it online...stores will be dead in ten years..i cant think of one except for FYE around my area that isnt closed...good idea though..maybe a specialized website??

There is an extremely cool little music shop near here, went in and drooled at the ric's, epi casinos, vox's, hofner basses, and told my kid "hey, look, that looks like Harrison's guitar! Or McCartney's bass!" etc. Sure enough, the proprietor tells me he's purposely stocked Beatles instruments. Sounds very niche, but I'm telling you it was cool.

However, he would be able to service an axeman of any budget/genre, he did have some diversity of gear. He just specialized in the Beatle-esque. He even has a modest selection of Mac's and Protools stuff for the home recordist.

I don't know how successful your vision of a niche shop could or could not be, but I think this guy's slant on a music store makes it immensely appealing and fun to shop at. Is it viable? Don't know. Hope he's still in business next time I need guitar gear! Just blew $500 on a new mixer, and that's it for awhile. Yeah, I'm broke.

hi i think thats cool, that's what i kinda meant. for me i think of it because it would be so helpful to me if there were shops like this around, and i know tons of other people are feeling the same as me.

as far as i know there is no homerecording equipment & software for sale in my town either.

Even just a store devoted soley to homerecording would be nice. i couldn't say myself but i think there's a large possibility it would do well in a small or large town.

and i know so many people (including myself) try to research their eyes out trying to figure out how to get the tone they want, and its usually a combination/influence of their favorite bands.

it would be pretty cool to walk into a store and it would have a section (just examples) for metallica tone, van halen tone, beatles tone etc... specifically with the guitars and amps, etc. they used for certain albums and songs.

also for those who cannot afford what may be at a higher cost, it could have its 'generic' twin next to it.

things like that. i'm not a business person myself and wouldn't enjoy it, but i've thought about this alot and i wish there were more stores like this. i thought your beatles example was really cool. and he even had homerecording software (mine here has nothing like that).

i hope he's still in business too & you have more moocho grande to spend there:):D thanks
