CNN has an article about Spotify

junplugged

Taking the slow road
They say spotify pays $0.0006 per streamed song, likely the entire song also. Do you really think they count and report all the streaming anyway? And who would be checking on them? How is that any better than the original Napster?

I've heard about this before too. Definitely not the greatest for artists. However, most decades have had their ways for people to get music for cheap, and they usually mean that artists don't get paid very well. Think cassette recording off the radio back in the 80s and 90s. Artists typically make the most money off of touring and merch. Which, again, sucks, but I don't think Spotify is doing much more damage than artists experienced in any decade. They also encourage people to listen to up-and-coming artists, discover new music, and break out of your normal tastes.
