Ok, Im new here and this is my first post. I have Fruity Loops and Acid Pro 4.0 and I want to make beats. I know how to use these programs, on a basic level. Nobody has taught me anything, it's most trial and error. I have a few questions that I can't figure out though. OK...

1. The sounds in Fruity Loops arent the best to make rap beats. I have a keyboard with MIDI and want to use it for sounds. How do I hook this up to fruity loops? Do I need a MIDI chip in my computer?

2. In Fruity Loops, there are plug-ins. What is a plug-in?

3. Is there a site where I can get free sounds for F.L.?

4. When using a sample in Acid, how should I go about sampling it. Should I chop it? Just let it play and put a drum loop behing it? I need a few tips about this. Where can I get samples from?

5. How do you get the drum loop to be in sync with the sample?

6. Do I need anything else besides FL and Acid to make decent beats?

1. You can load aftermarket sounds into FLP and ACID.

If you want to use the sounds from the keyboard, you will need to connect it to computer soundcard.

If the keyboard has MIDI OUT, you can connect it to the computers MIDI IN (if you don't have a MIDI IN /OUT on your computer, we will make some suggestions). You can then have the keyboard control the virtual synths in FLP and ACID (as well as other third party synths).

2. I don't really want to touch this question. I will give a brief overview, then I will let one/some of our other members expound on the meaning of the term "plug-in".

A software plug-in is an add-on for a program that adds functionality to it. For example, a Photoshop plug-in (such as Eye Candy) may add extra filters that you can use to manipulate images. A browser plug-in (such as Macromedia Flash or Apple QuickTime) allows you to play certain multimedia files within your Web browser. VST plug-ins add effects for audio recording and sequencing programs such as Cubase and Logic Audio.

Most graphics and audio programs today support plug-ins since they are a convenient way to expand the capabilities of the program. Though some plug-ins may be shipped with the program, most are developed by third-parties and are sold separately. Because companies that make browser plug-ins are often competing for a standard (such as Flash and QuickTime), these plug-ins are usually available as free downloads from the Internet.

You will need to get a midi interface.

But first, you need to give us ALL of the specs of you computer/equipment.
