USB flash drive question

Just got a Behringer X32 digital console and it will record 2 track live shows to a USB thumb drive.

It states in the directions ..... Plug a FAT-formatted (FAT12, FAT16, FAT32) USB stick into the USB post .....

I don't think that I have ever formatted a USB drive before. Am I missing something here?

You running windows, Henry? What version?

Chances are any flash drives you have will be formatted as NTFS or FAT32.
Sometimes you see the latter for mac compatibility.

Anyway, when you plug the flash drive in and go to view it, you should be able to right click on it and hit format.
It'll ask you to pick file type etc.

Just make sure there's nothing important on it first. All contents will be lost.

Thanks Paul.

It's a new drive so nothing on it as yet.

Windows XP. I'll plug it in and give it a whirl.

So normally one wouldn't need to format an USB flash drive, correct?

XP. Good. I know XP. :p

Erm, I think when you buy them new they probably need to be formatted.

So, go to start / My computer.
You'll see all your discs.

Right click on the USB drive and hit format.

Pick Fat 32, quick format, and hit go. :)

Running a few to record on the UFX and they've all been Fat32 from the get go. (They'd be formatted or they wouldn't plug and play'
