New Delta Driver Question

I am using the Roland Studio Pack that has a Delta PCI card called RPC-1 and I record with Sonar. Because I sometimes get the odd click on some recordings I decided to update the driver. I downloaded the newest one along with the Delta Uninstaller. I uninstalled the current driver and loaded the new one from a burned CD. I was prompted to choose the location. This confused me. Also, the new driver was a exe file. I've never seen this before. I chose the c: drive where I had originally installed the RPC software but I couldn't find a folder that had anything to do with the RPC. Now the RPC Control Panel won't load. What did I do wrong and what am I missing here? Should I reload the RPC software from the disc that came with the studio pack? The RPC Control Panel icon is still on the desktop. When I launch the icon I get the message "Unable to find or execute DeltaPnl.exe. Thanks.

The .exe driver file unpack all the driver installation files to a directory... just create a temp directory and unpack them to there and when you go to install the driver, use the have disk option and point it to the temp directory with the delta driver files

Thanks for the reply. All unzipped now but the Delta Uninstaller did not remove the old driver even though it said it did. The Uninstaller did screw up my RPC Control Panel though. All the shortcut paths are gone. The icons on the desktop and Windows Control Panel are useless. I did find the RPC Control Panel exe file in Windows/Sysytem though. But when I launch it the setting are different and some boxes are now greyed out. This is not good. I know now why you can't just upgrade the driver, the file number of the new driver is lower than the file number of the new driver! Basically, I have achieved nothing and ruined the RPC Control Panel. Anyone from M-Audio ever visit this board?

Use these instructions for your driver update. Its a pain in the ass, but it should work.

1.) Download the v4.1.22.38 Multiclient driver to your hard drive from the
web site at (www.midiman.net) and the New Un-installer Tool.
From there unzip the Multiclient .38 driver to a floppy disc and store
until you are ready to install it. Store the Un-installer on your hard
drive for when you need it. Or also copy it over to yet another floppy
disc. You will not have to unzip the un-installer just copy it over and
store it until you need it.

2.) Remove the current driver from Sound Video and Game Controllers within
the Device Manager.

3.) Run the un-installer.

4.) Do a search for *delta*.* Make sure that your system is set up first.
Double click on "MY computer"
go to "VIEW"
go to "FOLDER OPTIONS"
click on the "VIEW" tab
make sure "show all files" is checked
make sure "Hide extensions" is unchecked. Close out.

Now do a "find" ("Start"/"Find/Files and Folders") for *delta*.* Make sure
you are searching your local hard disk c: drive.

Remove all files found there:

Delta_w0.drv, Delta_w1.drv, Delta_w2.drv, Delta_w3.drv, , Delta_w5.drv,
Delta_w6.drv, Delta_wa.drv, Deltacpl.cpl, Deltampu.drv, Deltapnl.exe,
Deltasio.dll, Delteasi.dll, Ma_delta.dll, Ma_delta.inf, Ma_delta.vxd.

You might not have all of these files but delete the files you do have.

5.) Now do this same search for "oem*.inf" on your machine.
This file will come up: oem0.inf. If it is there take it out. If not then
you already got it. Be very careful you do not want to delete an oem that
is not Midiman M Audio. You can double click the file name and it should
open as a note pad. Please read to confirm Midiman M Audio to be sure.

6.) Now you are clean. Shut Down Do Not Restart.

7.) Take the Delta card out of the system. Remove the PCI card.

8.) Reboot without the card. Wait until the desktop is restored completely
to win98 desktop.

9.) Now Shut the system down completely again. Do NOT restart.

10.) Re-install the Delta card. Reboot.

11.) Re-load the v4.1.22.38 driver from the floppy disc.

12.) Now immediately go to Add/Remove Programs off the windows control
panel and Un-install Cubase.
