Need help on my connections

I am trying to get the best sound out of my equiptment. My soundcard has balanced connections available. I have a bass, I run an analog line from it to my pre amp. My preamp has a unbalanced and balanced out. Will I benefit from using the balanced out vs. the unbalanced out to go to my soundcard?

If your leads are longer than 20 feet, go for balanced.

Otherwise it doesn't really matter, although if you are in a nice electrically quiet environment, some people recommend unbalanced cables

So thats it, if it is under 20 feet blanced have no additional benefit? Can someone else also provide input?

The only way you will know for sure is to try it both ways and use the one that gives you the best results.
