Need help (Acoustica Mixcraft vs Ableton Live) Problem with sound cutting out

Been playing piano all my life (I'm 41), but I'm a Noob here in the digital world. Trying to decide which DAW to purchase. Narrowed my decision down to two, Acoustica Mixcraft Pro & Ableton Live Intro. My main interest in DAW is for (1) Live Performing AND (2) Home Recording. Currently using a Yamaha P-45 digital piano. For a stage piano sound, I have no complaints, but am in need of good Organ/EP VSTs for both performing & studio. So I'm going in as an Audio track for piano/vocals, and for all things Virtual(VST), MIDI over USB.

I'm not sure if it would classify as "clipping" or "latency", but for some reason, when using Ableton Live, the sound cuts out, particularly when I'm hitting too many keys at the same time or holding the sustain pedal down too long. However I do not have this problem using Mixcraft. With all things being fairly equal (cpu, usb interface, asio driver, buffer settings, etc), why would one perform differently from the other? Fyi, I have turned off software monitoring.

I've heard nothing but positive reviews on Live & don't want to rule it out too quickly, especially if it's something I've missed on my end. I'm just hoping to have the best tools possible, within a modest budget.

Any suggestions/tips you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
