MOTU Audio Interface analog inputs question.

Hi guys,

Im looking at this expensive Motu 24 I/O audio interface. All input are 1/4 TRS analog. I know it's expensive, but does that mean I still need mic preamp for my condenser mic and DI box for my guitars? It only says 1/4 TRS analog, nothing that says instrument input or mic input.

They're all line-level inputs, so yes, you would need preamps etc. Its a very stripped down interface, and literally does what it says in the name... gives you 24 channels of input and output.

I think its a product intended for those with analog mixers who wish to integrate them into a computer recording setup. In this situation it makes perfect sense to only have balanced TRS I/O!

How about looking at some of the other Motu interfaces that are more designed to be used by themselves? The 896mk3 is a very good interface with 8 preamps built in, and you could expand it to 24 inputs at a later date via the ADAT i/o.
