Hello all...

What MIDI guitar hardware would you guys recommend? I am interested in playing synths through my guitar and thought since i suck at piano maybe as an intermediate guitar player this would be a good idea.

500$ budget.

Also what would you guys recommend for a pro tools set up using a PC in terms of specifications. I also use serato (ddj sx 3) so would need to work with both properly.

You will need a good, low latency interface and I have to suggest the Native Instruments KA6 Mkll unless you can afford RME!

As for a suitable Windows PC? Something i7 and at least 8G ram, 1TB SSD. However, since you now have to go for Win 10 I would strongly consider a specialist PC builder for a leaner, de-bugged machine? Scan Computers have an excellent rep.

Pro Tools? Never had it but I think many here would say "don't bother unless you HAVE to reciprocate with others in the industry"? Reaper does pretty much everything peeps seem to need, maybe a mid level version of Cubase for the last word in MIDI implementation?

The interface would link the midi singnal to a computer? What Is RME?

I was gonna do pro tools just because i used it before. But really wanted something a bit simpler. Pro tools gets annoying sometimes with too much "engineering" crap.

If i was going to buy a computer i am going to go i7 or higher 16 g ram and 1 T hard drive for sure....having a specialist builder will get expensive and also i am not making money from music....just a hobby. If i get a deal you will know!

RME Fireface UCX

RME are noted for excellent products, very low latency even on USB 2.0 and keeping drivers and software updated for many OS iterations unlike many even quite famous AI makers. But, pricey!

The NI KA6 has the lowest latency of any sub £200 AI I know of (I have a Mk1) so is a decent second choice.

The PC is your choice of course. An i7 processor is nice of course but if cash is light a top end i5 will certainly handle a lot of tracks and a fair few plugins, the latter are the performance killers (look up "track freeze" if you don't know of it). You probably don't need a 1TB SSD but the OS and DAW should be on one. If you have a bucket of samples you could put them on a second spinner or an external USB 3 drive.

You seem to be saying you will build your own PC? If so fine. I mention the specialist builders because they can "prune" Win 10 for you but maybe you are an IT whizz anyway! I looked at Scan desktops (way I would go) and for $1000 you could get something pretty good, can you build better for less?

PT as I say is unknown to me. Reaper is very well thought of. I love Samplitude (Pro X 3) but then I have used little else* for ten years. There are now several totally free, full fat DAWs around.

*I must NOT give you the impression that I am a musician or a studio "person" in any way! Just an old valve amp tech that has developed an interest in PC recording initially to help a musically talented son. He has been in France these 4 years and so I have nothing to record. I am a full time carer so time and energy are not in great abundance anyway!
