Help glitch

Hi, I am new in hard disk recording, please help me! :)

I have a M-Audio FireWire 410, an Acer Aspire 2003WLMi, an external HD
Maxtor 7200rpm on USB2.0, a couple of Neumann KM140.
I use SoundForge7.0 (WDM) and Sonar 3.1.1 (ASIO).

I record, stereo only, at 24bit 96kHz or 24bit 48kHz.

My Aspire is optimized as I usually read in specific website ...

When I record I always get a lot of glitches even if I move M-Audio
buffer from 256 to 512 ...

Is there a way to obtain no glitch or I have to come back to my Tascam DAT?

Thanks

bye

What FireWire controller are you using and have you tried using an external FireWire drive instead of the USB2.0?

On 4pin firewire port of laptop there is M-Audio, on USB2.0
port there is hard disk.
USB2.0 and FireWire (400) have similar transfer rate ...

In the Device Manager for Windows it should show who the manufacturer of the FireWire controller is (ie Texas Instruments, VIA, NEC ... etc). Some controllers do a better job than others. You may want to check with M-Audio to see if there are any compatibility issues with certain FireWire controllers.
Sustained transfer rates on FireWire are better than USB2.0.
USB2.0 only performs better at Burst rates (good for small file sizes ... under 1 Meg).

What types of glitches are you getting?

On laptop there is a Texas Instruments IEEE controller while on my desktop
there is a VIA controller and hard disk is an IBM SCSI3 10000rpm. In any
way I get glitches like this or smaller:

I have used old and new M-Audio driver ...

Read through this thread from Sound on Sound, and see if maybe some adjustments to your PCI devices latencies help any.
Other than that ... if anybody else has any ideas, maybe they will chime in with some suggestions.
