my current interface has a AK4552 24/96 converter.

At some point when does the quality become un-noticed?
When is good ..enough?

I started thinking "better converters"..hmmm?...... but then I start wondering is this really something I should think about. Is this something I can even hear an improvement? I read posts .."ooooh my new converter is oooooo wow!!"

My converter is 24bit/96Khz....the year is 2005 or so. Is 2011 24/96 better than 2005 24/96?

My skeptical self knows, a new pc doesn't make my emails any better?

So my talent aside, looking at just the pc, it has a 7200 rpm hd, USB 2, and a interface with 24/96 feeding the computer and it returns to feed the Monitors.

Is a 2011 24/96 converter going to sound better than a 2005 24/96 converter?

Maybe more important is the preamps and output amp of the interface? I don't doubt some sound better, but is it the converters or something else? Maybe its the design of the surrounding capacitors and resistors, maybe its the amp chip in the interface, or maybe the room and monitors.....

which makes me wonder is 2011 OC703 fiberglass better than OC703 purchased in 2002?
of course not.
is a SM7b bought in 2004 worse than a SM7b bought in 2011 better? of course not.

so I'll assume my converters, 24/96 are just fine too even though its a 2005 24/96 DAC/ADC chip.

120 tempo is still 120 tempo......

Does Reaper sound better than Pro Tools?
no, its all 0's and 1's....I'll assume.

For $200 I can have 20 sheets of 703 delivered to my door, and probably hear a difference (as I have no treatment at all in a harsh drywall room)
For $200 more I can probably get closer to the $1000 range monitors and probably notice a difference.

YMMV
