Captain Sea Boots
I am currently using a SoundBlaster 5.1 card, but I cannot get the quality of audio recording that I want. I am planning to upgrade my sound card. I will be using the sound card to record acoustic guitar, vocals, and maybe some keyboard.
I don't need a ton of inputs, so I am looking at the Audiophile 2946, Echo Mia, and the E-MU 1212m. Any recommendations? Other options are welcome too. I am, however, trying to keep my soundcard/interface below the $20

Echo Mia is an excellent card; I've been using one for a couple of years in two different DAWs.

Dont think you see any difference at all in the quality of the Mia or the Audiophile. Both are in the same price range.

Just go for it.

Wasn't she the tall one in the "Golden Girls"?

The MIA is a sensible choice, but if you need a midi port, go for the Midi Mia.

One thing you may miss with any "pro" card, is the SoundBlasters midi/soundfont synth. None of the cards you mention have any midi synth at all. Depending on your PC, you may be able to keep the SoundBlaster for it's Midi features.
