Automatic Transcription?

I used to see ads for devices that would automatically tab out riffs you played through this box. I cannot remember the name of these things. Can anyone help?

I have such a horrible memory that I forget most of the stuff I write. I need a way to have my pc write it out for me so it doesn't slow my writing process down.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
