amplifier needed for CD

Within a den armoire, We have a 27" JVC TV with DVD input, a basic Toshiba [W-528] VCR and a basic Toshiba DVD Video Player [SD-K620KU]. We did have an older, larger JVC [PC-X200] CD Portable System that does not have Audio Input nor will it play MP3, or newer formats created on a newer computer with CD/RW,
burn, but not DVD capability.

We moved out the older JVC and replaced it with the Toshiba DVD Player so that we could watch DVD video and play CDs created on the computer.

Problem, playing a CD without an amplifier on DVD Player leaves a lot to be desired as to audio. With limited space in the armoire and not being real devotees to music and CD, home theater is not something we have a strong desire for.

We have wiring from the armoire that connects with speakers in the kitchen, but again without an amplifier, the sound is not great. We are not anxious to dump the relatively new equipment cited above for a new package of home theater components.
And space within and each side of the armoire is at a premium.

Is there such as thing as a "stand alone" audio amplifier obtainable to place between the DVD player and TV [both have component and S video connections]? If so, can you suggest a product and place for obtaining it to improve out audio reception?
