What's the deal with the FOSTEX 3040 noise reduction unit?

I'm checking the signals

seems that in Play mode, the channel outputs 25.4 volts
and when in REC mode goes down to 24.4 volts...

thank you

AFAIK the Teac/Tascam control signal doesn't distinguish between channels though. I am not familiar w/ the RX-9 operation. Per the threads on the DX-4D modules, the "control" circuitry simply disengages a muting circuit. It doesn't switch it from "encode" to "decode" the DX-4D has modules for both.

It is more of a software dongle. The 3040 is simply a switch to short to ground, but it distibguishes which channel is in record or playback mode and switches the unit into either mode per channel. I don't know if the Teac 3440 signal is specific enough.

Can you be more specific where you are measuring that?

Ok I was wrong... :) sorry...
but I have found a solution:

so the DX9 control plug on the TEAC A3440 is
pin 1 GND
pin 2 chan 1
pin 3 chan 2
pin 4 GND
pin 5 chan 3
pin 6 chan 4

metering between GND and chan1 for example (pin 1 and pin 2) I'm getting +25 volts
but when the chan 1 goes in RECORD mode the pin2 goes to GND level (0V)

So I tested:

I connected GND from TEAC to GND in FOSTEX 3040
Connecteed chan 1 TEAC -> 10kOHMResistor -> chan 1 FOSTEX 3040

and BINGO!! when the TEAC goes in REC mode, the 3040 goes in ENCODE mode...

now, I've only to find the correct plugs... :)

thank you for your help

How do you guys have the 3040 hooked up? I mean regarding the RCA connections?

I haven't hooked mine up yet (re-working the space at the moment, nothing is hooked up.)

I'm assuming thus:

Console out ----> 3040 input
3040 encode send -----> tape line in
tape line out ----->3040 decode rcv
3040 output ----> console tape return
