Is this an AES connector?


I have seen this somewhere before.

It says "Record P/B" under it. (record / playback ?)

There is one for the front left/right and one for the rear left/right.


Kind of looks like a MIDI cable hookup. I don't know that they had MIDI back in 1970 though...:D

No. It's called a DIN plug. It was invented back in the late 50's and was used as a means of having both record and playback connections in one easy, can't fuck up, type connection for a tape recorder.

The connection was popular on european equipment and on some Japanese stuff up-to the mid 80's and after that, it just kinna faded away, just like analog is doing these days.

MIDI stole this plug design.
