I found a Tascam 424 4-track on Craigslist being sold for 50 bucks, and definitely want to buy it. When I tried it out, however, the unit powered up fine, yet play/rewind/fast forward/record buttons did nothing. Are the motor(s) and/or belt(s) broken? Would it be worth my while to pick it up for less money and repair it myself? Where would I find a motor/belts? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
