TASCAM 424 MKIII Won't Power On

Hi there!

I picked up an old Tascam 424 MKIII off Craigslist for $100. Seller said it wouldn't power on and thought it might be an easy fix. Sure enough, it does not power on. The power supply does not appear to be a factory original, but it matches the specs.

Does anybody have any idea where to begin troubleshooting this unit?

Thanks in advance!

Step 1 is usually to check/verify the power supply is actually working. So get out your multimeter, plug the power supply into the wall and then measure at the business end of the power supply with your multimeter to:

A. Verify it is outputting the correct voltage and type, and
B. NOT outputting anything it shouldn’t be outputting.

The next step is then to actually verify the power supply is rated for the correct voltage or vantages for the 424mkIII, can supply at least the maximum current demanded by the 424mkIII, and has the correct connector and polarity to mate with the 424mkIII
