I just recently purchased tascam 388!!!

I did read the manual (cross my fingers)

I recorded on track 1 but do not here the tape playback

The vu meters move which is a good sign but dont hear a thing.

I pressed the red button to arm track1 and press the rec function to record track 1

press rec/play to recor------d rewind tape

But no playback
should I hear the playback in phones

Is there a button Im not pressing

Any info would be greatfully appreciated

Nevermind

I found a post from TECHNO PLAYER
Cleaned the head and tested all tracks assigning and record on all tracks !!

IT WORKED!!!

The 388 is a well equipped and nice sounding Portastudio. People who like'm really love'm, for the most part.

Here's what Im using

Cakewalk Sonar
Motu Micro express with SMPTE MTC
Tascam 388 ( of course)


The goal: I Just want to get my sequencer (Cakewalk Sonar) to start when I press play on the Tascam 388

I would like to use my external keyboards through Cakewalk Sonar using MIDI.

I was trying to setup smpte using my MOTU micro express unit

the signal from the smpte (stripe) works

i recorded the tone on track 8 ( DBX OFF) through my Motu device

I played back the reel back .... the tone is there!!!

I put the audio 1/4 jack into Smpte (IN) from back of track 8 (tape out)


The Motu device (micro express) will not pick up a signal from track 8

I even checked the cords to hear a signal ....audio signal works

Any help would be greatly appreciated

im open to alternate suggestions as well
