Tascam 246 refurb parts

Afternoon,

I have been scouring the internet for several days now looking for rubber parts for the tape mechanism of a Tascam 246 portastudio. I had seen several older posts here regarding the issue, but many were from several years ago and it seems that maybe sources have dried up?

I browsed ebay and there appears to be a seller from Australia who's offering a full kit with control/capstan belts, idler tires, and a pinch roller. I'm wary of buying anything off of ebay for fear that the parts won't fit correctly and I'll be out $$. I am also leaning toward sending the pinch roller off to Terry, as I've dealt with him in the past with vintage turntable rebuilds and he makes an excellent product and is very easy to deal with.

I suppose, in short, I'd like to hear from anyone who has successfully used belting kits from somewhere like vintage electronics or the like that haven't worn out, goo'd out, or broke on them after a good period of time. I understand these machines have to be kept in use and cleaned to keep the rubber good on 'em, and I fully intend to refurbish and then use this machine to its potential.

Thanks for any help or insight!

Hey there, and welcome to the forum. Sorry I'm so late to respond; I didn't see this earlier.

I've bought a belt kit off ebay for a 246, as well as many other Tascam 4 track models, and never had any issues. They always worked like a charm.

Most recently, I bought a belt kit for a Tascam Porta Two HS from a seller named lofi_music on ebay. Here's his store:

Before that, I bought a capstan belt for a Tascam 688 from a seller on ebay named blue3602000. It worked perfectly, too.

Good luck
