Tascam 244: Missing Pinch Roller Arm Pin

Hey guys,

My Tascam 244 was in need of an idler tire change and in the process of taking out the tape transport part the pinch roller fell off. Now I cant for the life of me find the pin that attaches the roller to the arm anywhere (gotta be in my room somewhere but who knows, its so small). Are there any alternatives I can use for the pin part so it functions smoothly again? Or do I have to find a whole new arm/pinch roller.

Thanks in advance,

Freddy

As nobody else has replied yet I'll have a go, but not sure I'm much use. I must admit I was scared stiff when I replaced the pinch rollers in my 244s thinking exactly this might happen. I guess my advice would be to first search high and low for that pin. Maybe use some very sticky tape to trawl over the carpet where it might have fallen in case you can pick it up - remember they always manage to fall about 6 feet furhter away than you think! But on the other hand I managed to get cheap, generic rollers to fit my machines - you might be able to butcher a cheap old cassette player for a similar pin. Guys on this site have lots of praise for Terry's Rollers -Terry seems to specialise in refurbishing rollers and may have or be able to make a part for you. I don't have a link but you should be able to find lots of references on the site. Best of luck - I hope you can fix it!

Thanks for the insight. Searched everywhere in my room for it to no avail. It's the mystery! It might also be in the machine itself but no way am I going to take anything else apart to find it. I'll likely bring it to a tech as there are other things that need servicing as well. Cheers

Get a magnet sweep the floor with it. For inside of things. I use a telescoping rod with a magnet on the end. Looks much like a car antenna.
