Question Tape speed on the MSR16

Please correct me if I'm wrong. When recording on the MSR16 wouldn't I always want to use the higher tape speed? Doesn't higher tape speed give you better audio resolution/sound? Other than to save tape, is there a reason for the 7.5 ips low speed? Thanks, Dave.

7.5 IPS comes in handy for tape economy and can also be a creative tool when you want to record a smoking guitar solo that couldn't normally be played at speed with a normal 15 IPS production by allowing you to drop the speed in half and go an octave lower then play it back at 15 IPS and have your million note per second solo buzz saw through the mix!

It can also be used for interesting octave harmony parts in other instruments and main or backing vocals.

Or, if you're just wanting to flesh out a song idea and not use up a lot of tape in the process, 7.5 IPS comes in handy in saving tape and the sound should still be decent, better at least then a cassette recording for sure.

    Cheers!

    Thumbs up

Thanks for the ideas. The buzz saw lead appears in my near future Dave.
