Is this safe as hold-down tape?

Was in a pinch for hold-down tape, looking frantically around, but none anywhere in the house. Ventured into a room that I'm remodeling and eyes fell upon a pile of rolls of 3M "Painter's tape." The blue stuff that is not supposed to ruin painted surfaces and comes off clean. Ah Hah! Figured that it will do at least until I can get the real thing. Then, I got thinking: Since hold-down, at least in my case, is only going to touch the very end of the paper leader and the outside of the reel flange, would there be any reason to use the real thing? Why not just use the ends of rolls of "Painter's Tape" that I always have laying around?

What do you guys think? Is there any danger or potential harm, given that, in my case, the hold-down tape will never touch the tape itself, just the leader and outside of the reel?

If it holds the tape down and is removable, then it's as real as it gets. :)
