Otari MX5050 VU way off

Have an 8 track otari mx5050. Calibrating playback with a 250nwbm MRL @-6 for Quantegy 499.... Did the calibration with the VU meter, to find channel 6 levels way outta whack.

Wired up a VOM to an XLR to have a 2nd opinion on what was going on. All channels read -7VU on playback (1db off), voltage is .499-.508 range. #6 was way low on voltage, although VU matched the rest. Cranked SRL to get .501v on #6 & now the VU reads -3. Tried the front screw on the VU to make it read right, not enough range.

Anyone have any ideas as to where to go next? There's no pot to adjust on the VU pcb, & they're fed by the repro amplifier via a little ribbon cable type of deal.

Never fails...30 seconds later I find it.

The high low switch on the back is apparently full of crap. Snapped it up & down a few times & the voltage shoots off to neverland....time to pull the back cover & start squirtin deoxit.

That's ok. It's kinda like washing your car when you want it to rain. :)
