Otari MX 5050 & PC sync?

Yo.

I am getting ready to purchase an Otari mx 5050 8track on the WAAAAAYYYY cheap. I am really lucking out here, that is irrelevant.

Anyway, I record w/ Samplitude 7.01 using a Echo Layla 24 card.

Can anyone give me a rough idea of how I can sync these babies up? I would like to be able to track stuff to the Otari (drums, bass, handclaps, cat meows, pencils) after doing most of the stuff in Samplitude. I assume that I will need to stripe a track w/ SMTPE. Can I do that w/ the described equipment?

I don't know anything about Samplitude, but you'll need a box that does the syncing. There are tons of options available.

There are other options than SMPTE, but they are usually more aimed at syncing MIDI equipment, so SMPTE is probably the best choice. Which SMPTE box to use is largely a question of what you can get your hands on. :)
