Otari mx 5050 2 track problems.

So I've got this 2 track I've been using it as a "stereo" tape delay, it sounds awesome, but usually after 10 minute one channel drops out completely, am I driving it to hard ( dont think so) it works perfectly for like ten minutes no noticeable distortion or anything.

Well....how hard ARE you driving it?

Do you mean it goes completely dead or that after 10 minutes you start getting distortion?

I would guess it's the channel card...something's not right.
What about if you just power it up and let it sit there for 10 minutes....then try it....does the channel still go out ?

Makes me wonder if it might be a dry solder joint or possibly a loose plugin connector that is moving out of position and breaking contact as the board heats up.

i had an issue on my 5050 that was a bad transistor that was giving me some strange noise after heating up. It maybe something similar, mine was in the playback section

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll try having a look at the connections.
It does not distort, signal just vansihes completely.
I'll also try leaving it on with no signal in for some time and see if it behaves the same.

Relays on these machines can cause all kinds of trouble as well. Check this older thread where we've dealt with the relay before and see if you can relate to any other of these issues that might point to relay failure on the amp cards.
