Otari MKIII Head spot Question and a few beginner questions

MRL (15 IPS by 1/4) tape is ordered.

Should be here by a week and a half (really slow for modern U.S. shipping). It appears the tapes come from "Analogtapes.com." I'm not really sure of much about the website or quality of their supplies/suppliers, but I'm sure any MRL would be better than no MRL. I would think there is a standard applied that is at least close.

MRL stands for Magnetic Reference Laboratories - it isn't just a generic term for a test tape but a particular manufacturer who have a very good reputation for quality. Their website is a really good source of information on analogue recording - Magnetic Reference Laboratory (MRL) manufactures and sells worldwide Calibration Tapes for analog magnetic tape recorders in the Open Reel format.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. Although I knew what MRL stands for I read something misleading somewhere. I wasn't sure if MRL made the tapes or just established the standard.

The information about the item seems pretty in line with the MRL website with MRL listed as the brand of manufacture. I think I should be fine.

Update.

The MRL is in and I have a 40mhz oscilliscope coming in soon. I though about hooking up the PC but since it's a desktop wiring would be annoying with the RTR on the other end of the room. For me it's just more convenient and less than 60 USD.
