levels discrepancy

Hi- I'm wondering if there's anyone out there who might know a solution to this or have a clue as to what is happening. I've got an Otari MX- 5050 8 track deck and a Mackie board. The signals I end up getting on the individual channels on the deck and weaker than I want, nowhere near the redline on the monitor needle. When I try to send a louder signal by turning up the trim on the board, the sounds start to clip. There seems to be a discrepancy between the sensitivity of the deck and the board. The input switches on the back of the Otari are already set to high.

?

If I'm not mistaken the Mackie is likely -10dBv out, so you want the switches on the Otari set to low. When they are set to high, the nominal level on the deck is +4dBu.
