Fostex R8 - FastForward works - PLay not

Hi there,

I have a Fostex R8 that can do fast forward but refuses to play at normal speed. I'm not firm in maintenance. Is there anything I can test or some common fixes for this problem.

Sounds like a belt, search here for fostex belt replacement. I think DrZee has a tutorial on his website.

I have the same problem with mine... I hit play and it starts to play then stops on its own... the first time this happened, it was the motor... ... had it fixed, about a year later, it's broke again...

these machines are always breaking... I've seen R8s break down a lot... my experience...

if you're in Toronto, I know where you can get it fixed.

Can be bad belt, can be broken capstan motor pulley which may slide off/up the shaft and the belt may slip off the pulley. You need to take a look what's going on there.

I found the service manual and will look at the link Dr. Zee provided.
I will have a look at the problem when I get some spare time next week.

Btw. I'm from Germany, so I fear spare parts are very rare here.
