Well, I picked up a Model 80 locally. Not in working order and basically as a parts machine for the other one I have. (LEDs all seem to work on it, heads look decent at a casual glance...but should be lapped and the machine realigned, the wear pattern appears uneven) Came with teh remote too and one roll of tape...
Anyway, this particular machine no capstan turning (belt?) but also the damndest thing: the threads for the cap that retains the counter roller are stripped don't know if it is the nut or bolt side, but it works its way off in ff/rew mode (play obviously doesn't work b/c no capstan.) So the washers are also missing. Have no idea how that happened. Seller bought it as a project then changed his mind so he doesn't know either.
Fixing this one isn't a priority, but will update this thread periodically in case I glean any useful info.
