Fellow 388 Fans!

Typical use for a pre-fade send is as a monitor or cue feed; setting up a separate mix for the talent, for instance, that’s not affected by changes in the channel faders. You can also use it as a pre-fade effects send like if there is an effect you want to keep feeding regardless of the channel fader position. An example is an echo effect you want to keep repeating even after you fade out the dry source whether it’s a live source or the playback of a track...or a reverb and as the song fades out all that’s left is the reverb.

Yes, but have you ever done that? And why would anyone want to hear a mono only playback?

Sure I’ve done that. It doesn’t have to be mono. Depending on the effects unit you can feed the unit with a mono signal and it may have a stereo output, again depending on the unit and the particular effect.

Come again?

That was one of the options I suggested.

On the 388 you would normally use the EFF buss as a post-fader effects send, and the AUX buss as a monitor feed for a cue mix. Tascam included the option to switch the AUX buss pre or post-fade so you could use it as an extra post-fade effects buss if you didn’t have need for a pre-fade monitor feed.
