Erase Head????

It seems fairly obvious from the title of this machine head what it was intended for.. But if it was made to erase tape, I seriously don't have the slightest clue on how to use it.

I have a Fostex Model 80, for the record. I've read the manual, and it speaks nothing of the Erase Head use.

You'll have to forgive me, fellas, if this is a very amateur question.. But the recent dive into analog is a semi-new one for me. Please enlighten me on the erase head and it's function... And how to use it on my machine.

The erase head function is a part of the recording process...it is not a separate function. Let's say you are retracking drums on track 1 ~ 3...when you record-enable tracks 1 ~ 3 and put the transport into rec-play mode the erase head is energized wiping tracks 1 ~ 3 right before tape hits the record head.
