This may not be the right place... but after some pondering- it is analog related
I have a 59 Hammond M3 with field coil speaker- I'm currently taking a paralle off the speaker voice coil and sending to line mixer which I can send to the control room and assign to a track for recording and/or using the effects send send a signal to a separate amp driving a Leslie. Works fine, but the internal speaker is still in play.
I've looked at several dummy load circuits (for Hammonds)- 4 - components, fairly straightforward...
I'm mainly a guitar player and I've used dummy loads on guitar amps to kill the speaker, but I've never really liked the resulting sound as much as with the speakers. I read some comments/opinions that much of this is because the dummy loads are 'static/fixed', where as the voice coil moves within the magnetic field... so
is there any reason I could take a speaker with similar wattage rating and impedance and 'gut' the cone- and use it as a less passive dummy load?
I thought it wiser to ask before sacrificing a speaker to the audio gods
