Probably a long shot, but I'm wondering if it's possible to construct your own tapes from cheapo cassette shells and loose tape for use in portastudios?
I have a Tascam Porta two High-speed 4 track which requires Chrome, High Bias, Type II, 60 min tapes. These are difficult to come by these days, and when I do, they're generally pricey (the high-speed means 60 min tape only records 15 mins).
I can see the main problem would be finding the correct width tape; I think cassette tape is 3/8 inch, unlike the more common 1/4 inch tape like on open reel machines. But anyway, just thought I'd ask the experts none-the-less...
Any thoughts? Experiences? etc?
Much appreciated, thanks!
